Manual wheelchairs

Manual Wheelchairs are covered by most insurance companies if they are medically necessary. A prescription from your doctor will be needed to begin the process of receiving a wheelchair through your insurance. Manual wheelchairs come in a wide array of sizes, colors, styles and weights.

  • Standard - typically made of steel, these are intended for temporary purposes and for people weighing less than 250 lbs.
  • High-strength lightweight - intended for more long-term use and or for those needing a lower seat for foot propelling. They're usually made of high-strength aluminum and weigh less than 35 lbs.
  • Ultra-lightweight - designed for people with special circumstances, with a folding or rigid frame. This is the lightest version of the manuals that typically weighs 14-24 lbs.
  • Custom manual - this group includes bariatric, sports chairs, tilt-in-space, and titanium chairs. These may not be covered by insurance.

Scooters for purchase or rent

Scooters may be covered by insurance when certain medical criteria are met. Medicare will pay for a scooter if it is needed at home to complete one or more mobility-related activities of daily living. Medicare does not pay for scooters for outdoor mobility only .

Scooters are available in a range of

sizes. Some models weigh less then 100

pounds and will easily disassemble for

transportation. Scooters are available

in three and four-wheel models.

Scooters are available with weight

capacities up to 600 pounds.

Some scooter models are not eligible

for Medicare reimbursement due to

their size. A home assessment will be

needed before a scooter will be covered

by insurance.

Soper’s has an assortment of scooters

on the showroom floor. Please come

into the store and test-drive one today.

Our Mobility Specialist will be happy to talk about whether or not a scooter will be covered by your insurance.

Power chairs for maximum mobility

Standard power chairs are covered by most insurance companies.

Medicare has recently changed payment for standard power equipment.

These devices are now a capped rental item. This means Medicare rents

the chair for 13 months, and then it is considered purchased. Medicare and

most insurance companies pay for these devices if needed to accomplish

Activities of Daily Living in the home.

Consumer power chairs are the most common type of chair and are normally rated for up to 300 lbs., with a driving range of up to 20 miles. Most commonly, they have a 10-inch drive wheel, but some have a 14-inch wheel. Visit our showroom to see the different models and colors available.

Scooters benefit people suffering from the following medical conditions:

  • Congestive heart failure
  • Neuropathy
  • COPD
  • Amputee
  • Arthritis complications
  • And many others

These chairs are also offered in several different models with some color options. Soper's Mobility Aids LLC offers a selection of different chairs for you to choose from on the showroom floor.
